H1N1 Swine Flu alert: National Lutheran Home & Village has a proactive pandemic plan in place to address concerns about H1N1 Swine Flu virus and potential complications should an outbreak take place. Please refer to the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene website for the most updated information about the progress of H1N1 Swine Flu in Maryland. Summary of Disaster Plan
Defend in Place - A strategic defense that recognizes the frailty of residents and protects life and property through automated systems such as audible alarms, smoke and fire detectors, automatic sprinkler systems, doors that close automatically with a fire alarm, generator back-up power to run basic lighting and elevator.
Fire Drills - Our fire plan is tested monthly. Each shift is tested to ensure they practice the plan.
System Checks - Automatic systems of the building are tested each week on Friday. We check to make sure that the bells ring and the strobes work as well as all automatic doors shut and latch. Timely maintenance and repairs are made to ensure proper operation. Documentation of the tests is inspected by the surveyors when they request them.
Disaster Plan - Our Disaster Plan is comprehensive. We have plans to cover the following areas:
Terrorism Threats
Pandemics
Fire
Evacuation
Heat Loss
Water Rationing/ Contamination
Bomb Threats
Weather Emergencies
Disaster Drills - The staff of the facility practices a section of the Disaster Plan at least yearly. All shifts are given a scenario to run through as if the emergency was actually happening and their performance is critiqued. The knowledge gained through running through the scenario is then used to update the Disaster Plan and every employee is in-serviced on the changes to the plan.
Evacuation Plan - Evacuation is a last resort. The facility would first evacuate from one wing to another and then from one floor to another.
In the most extreme situation the facility has an agreement with Lakewood Country Club that would enable us to evacuate to their facility in an emergency. All injured parties would be evacuated to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital.
Full Disaster Plan is available for review upon request.
