General Opportunities
(scroll down for specific jobs and time commitments)
• Visit residents in their rooms on a regular basis.
• Help residents with daily activities, read to them, help in the cafeteria or accompany them outside.
• Assist residents with arts and crafts in the Activity Center.
• Assist in or lead a variety of group activities from exercise to poetry reading.
• Escort residents inside the home to and from the medical clinic, physical therapy, group activities.
• Be a companion when a resident is transported outside the home to a medical, dental, or other appointment.
• Perform library duties.
• Deliver mail, read mail to sight impaired residents, and write letters for those who have difficulty writing.
• Assist in clinic and other offices with reception and clerical duties.
• Clerk in the snack bar.
• Other activities, including sewing, tending plants, giving manicures, helping with landscaping.
• Your ideas are also considered, please feel free to bring them up.
New Volunteer Opportunities
Unit Assistants
Shift 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Minimum two days per week per month. Monday – Friday. Duration flexible. Complete training provided.
Duties: Assists nursing department on non-medical tasks. Free lunch taken with residents. Answer telephones, pass trays, set up trays, cut food, open milk, tie bibs, cue people to eat. NO feeding. Assignment of floors and wings TBD. Uniform smock or vest provided. Desire to achieve a team of 40 - 60 Unit Assistants.
Physical Therapy Escort
Shifts 8:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. OR 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Minimum one shift per week. Monday – Friday. Training provided.
Duties: Escort residents to and from units to PT to arrive for appointments at the specified time. Light exertion pushing wheelchairs is involved.
Physical Therapy Office Assistant
Shifts 8:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. OR 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. Minimum two shifts per week. Training provided.
Duties: Answer telephone, check resident in and out for appointments, call floors to prompt resident transport, copy records and other tasks as assigned by Physical Therapy Manager.
Library Assistant
Shifts 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m. OR 1:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Minimum commitment one shift per week. Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday.
Duties: Check in books, file and locate books for residents by title and author.
Library Cart Delivery
Shift 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Minimum commitment one day per week. Preferred commitment two days per week. Tuesday and Thursday.
Duties: Deliver books, magazines, puzzle books, newspapers, foreign language publications to 1st and 2nd floor units. Ambulatory residents visit the cart in the living room. Some individual visits may be requested for room-bound residents.
Remotivation Discussion Leader
Time and day flexible based on volunteer’s schedule. Lead a 45 minute to 1 hour discussion group on one unit, once per week. Minimum time commitment is four months. Renewable.
Duties: Meetings are held in the unit living rooms for 8 – 10 residents. People with great verbal skills, patience and sense of humor are ideal for this job. Seeking to develop a team of 10 volunteers. Free National Certification Training provided (eight hours). No medical or psych background required.
Special Visitors
Time and day flexible based on volunteer’s schedule. Two hours per week. Monday – Sunday. Minimum visit 45 minutes per resident.
Duties: Brighten a room bound resident's day. Visit, chat, read books and newspapers. Assigned to same residents (2) weekly. Goal is to develop a relationship with a resident as a new friend. Effort made to match people with like backgrounds, occupation and interests. The joy of companionship goes both ways! Volunteers fluent in languages other than English also desired.
